RLabs champion on the Rise!

“My name is Darryl Janari, I am 17 years old from Atlantis.
I am a sound engineer in my church Atlantis Beacon Hill, which is situated in Atlantis. My Pastor informed me about an organisation called RLabs. He asked me if I am interested in working with computers, and I said yes, But I wanted to know what the cost involved was. He then said that there was no cost involved, and that it was for free! I then completed a course with RLabs in Atlantis, I then graduated and moved on to become a co-facilitator.

I was told about the Youth Cafes that is one of the biggest projects of  RLabs , and that a Youth Cafe to be placed in Atlantis was in the pipeline. I wanted to check out these Youth Cafes, but also so that I could meet the staff of RLabs Bridgetown, which is the head office of to all the RLabs hubs.

My experience here at Youth Cafe Vangate was great. I met so many new friends here, and I am definitely going to bring some people from Atlantis to the Youth Cafes. Il pray to God so that he could bless you guys off your ‘socks’.”

Using the "Hip Hop Culture" to install Hope in Youth

Andre is a young, smart, dynamic, enthusiastic and spontaneous young man. He is “full of life” and focused on making a change in his community and the people he comes in contact with. His passion is to help people, and he is doing so by using his talents (gifts). His talents are rapping, making music and performance art. His passion is what drives him, the passion to perform inform in front of a crowed does him justice, he loves to entertain people,  and in doing so encouraging them in a positive way. Hip Hop is a major influential factor in his life; he has grown up listening to Hip Hop. It started out with him being influenced by the negative elements of hip hop but he no longer is.

He is now a born again Christian, and he is as said in his own words, and I quote “unashamed of the gospel” and he’s using his art and craft to spread the word and love of the God. “I will go to the wildest places in the world, to share the love of God”. He said: “Art is a universal language, it speaks to everybody, no matter who you are, and where you come from, it speaks to you. Everybody watches TV, and listens to music, so they can relate to it. God has given me a word “Disciples of the nation”, and at the moment I am involved in an organisation. I am reaching out to people, mainly the poor communities and I am trying to get them off the streets. There is a few of them that’s actually talented dances and they are very good performers, and I want to utilize that so that they can become successful. I want to encourage them to use their gifts, to create job opportunities for themselves. Everybody goes through struggles and bad times, and I want to show them that there is hope through art and my journey. I want to show people that you can rap and not swear and still have a positive impact, because at the end of the day it is still a funky beat that would get people moving, but positive words are being preached and proclaimed.

I am a Zafe’ and I want to encourage my fellow Zafes (peers) to work on something whether it be dance, or any form of art even if it’s not art but a skill, and take that skill or art and find a venue and have everybody come together and use all your skills or art to create a free workshop for everybody to learn. God Bless.”

The Change Within Me

The Change Within Me

This is all about the change within me from the Youth Cafe

Its started on the 25th of July 2014 on a Friday when my sister and I came to the Youth Cafe at Vangate Mall, I was very shy and the staff was very homecoming. I remember Radne registering me on the system and I have to say, she was very jolly and I was blushing very very much. I have a my session with Augustine and the was blogging on WordPress and it was awesomely awesome and my first was troublesome.

After that day, I learnt that, this place is very friendly and full positive energy and I start to talk to the staff , then the zafe and then a side of me, a side that was forgotten within just came back to life. I started to go hyper and crazy and insane in a good way, that side was the old me, that was gone 15 years ago and thank to the Youth Cafe, I feel good again...

So all I want to say is that the Youth Cafe have Change me in way that bring the good out of a person and its my dream to bring the good out to good and to protect them.

My first day at the Youth Cafe

I can remember the first day I was at the Youth Cafe...It was cold , my friend and I were on our way to Absa to get her practical done. When a friendly guy approached us to tell us about this new place outside the mall.

Yip, we first thought  that this guy was really forward to come to us tell us about this place. Hello there! I was like really tired. It's was the 24th of  July 2014 on a Thursday afternoon after college and it was ice cold.... So my friend and I decided, okay when we came from Absa we will go and check out this "Youth Cafe". What a mistake! now I am stuck at this place called Youth Cafe.

That day I forgot my ID at home and I said I will go back and registered myself. I thought to myself  I will bring my brother along with me. HAHAHAHA because  I told myself I'm not going alone.

Our first session at the Youth Cafe was Word Press. It was so cool, that my brother said he will come everyday.

I was a very shy person, I was always one sided, I did not like talking to anyone...because in my mind, everyone was judging me. I thought I was always alone...  Until These weird people came to and begin talking to me about things I don't know.

There is still a lot of things that I can say about the Youth Cafe,  Which mean this will a book. And not a post. All i can say thank you everyone at the Youth Cafe. You guys made me to became a better person.

Thank you oxoxoxo
